United Hands of Carroll County was established to assist with the culturally diverse needs of the new immigrant community. The organization helps families and individuals make informed decisions regarding their family and settlement needs. United Hands strives to improve the quality of life for the foreign-born population of Carroll County; and through the Cultural Navigator Program, it assists the non-English speaking community in learning, navigating, and addressing the economic and social issues faced daily so that they may become empowered advocates for their children.
Elena Hartley: the Cultural Navigator who is a Hispanic Carroll County resident who has experienced first hand the challenges faced by recent immigrants. Over the years the Cultural Navigator has become well informed about the government and private sector options available to immigrants. This vast knowledge is shared with the immigrant community, enhancing their everyday lives.
Mary Carrier: the Outreach Assistant and helps promote United Hands of Carroll County's services through educational events and other partnerships. She is a board member of the Carroll County Local Management Board and is on the middle school subcommittee. The 2015 project for the subcommittee is a multi-cultural middle school leadership conference scheduled for November 5th. She also coordinates programs and partnerships with area service providers, along with organizing the workloads for the college interns.
